“Francesco, what will you be when you grow up?”
“When I grow up I want to be a magician”.
A child who comes up with such an answer to the most classic of questions, a child able to give a face and a voice to his genuine and wonderfully senseless dreams, can only be a special child. The magician is the man who enchants, who mixes colors to leave you speechless, who invents, who does things never done before.
“Fantasy – Francesco Arculeo, founder of Lagalene tells us – has always lived within me. Maybe it was because I grew up in Palermo, the city of Cagliostro, and maybe the air I breathed smelled so much of alchemy entered me to remain there. A desire to imagine and experience that I immediately felt, and that has always accompanied me, in every step of my life “.
Tell us about it.
Since I was a kid, I tried to put things and ingredients together to see what happened. I stole ingredients from my kitchen to create masks that would cure acne, I chased perfumes imagining creating new ones, I mixed essences and spices driven by curiosity and a very sensitive nose. One more sense, the sense of smell: capable of opening new worlds.
A particular sensitivity, which was leading me to the decision to enroll in the famous “Smell Course” held in Geneva where they teach how to recognize and pair perfumes to further enhance them. I was particularly gifted, I have always had this highly developed ability, it was a path that I felt was mine.
But in the end, I took a different path. The course costs an arm and a leg, and even though my family could still afford it, I wanted to make a different choice. I have always been a very practical person and attracted to independence, so I decided to enroll in Management Engineering with the aim of finishing it as soon as possible. And in fact I was the youngest in Italy, in my year, to graduate.
Because I am like that. At 10, I took the bus alone to go to school, when I was very young I started working during the summers while my classmates went on vacation: I wanted to be independent, even if my family never made me miss anything. This practicality, this way of being, this mental form: I am still like this today, and what I did I did thanks to my being like this.
Then, the entry into the world of work.
First in Pavia, then in the human resources of a refinery in Sicily: curious, for someone in love with perfumes like me, to go to work in a place where the only smell you could smell was that of sulfur. But that was a wonderful experience, capable of completing me.
My everyday life was in contrast with that limiting aspect common to all engineers: the one for which the whole world works as a machine with a defined and precise cause-effect relationship. Action corresponds to reaction. Here, this does not happen in man: and I learned it, touched it, saw and felt it working within human resources. Then, I changed.
I listened to my commercial vocation, without forgetting my innate desire to invent and do new things. I then launched into a startup that set itself the idea of spreading natural energy: the idea became reality, reality became great, and from the “scribe” I was I became the “salesman” of energy. Or at least, so my friends used to say to make fun of me.
And then how did the story continue?
The story went on: first in Milan then in Gallarate, always with another energy entrepreneur, then the big step.
Freelancer, energy consultancy: a new but at the same time beautiful experience. A new mental form, which has perfectly adapted to my way of being. Meanwhile, in my down time I started doing something else: a Chinese boyfriend asked me to work alongside the multinational he was working for in organizing a fashion show in Milan.
Again, a new world.
Fashion. Fashion shows, photographers, models.
We get closer to Lagalene…
Exactly, we get closer to Lagalene. Slowly…
Let’s continue to tell, then.
This company produced a nebulizer that “nanomised” the essences, creating a sort of mist that moisturizes the skin. This project, however, could be improved, because it had some critical issues that led to a mediocre result with the skin that was only superficially hydrated. So then I got into it.
That I added a very high quality hyaluronic acid, significantly improving the effectiveness of the product, and that I created the Lagalene brand to summarize in one name the two fundamental characteristics of what we had and would have created. Total sustainability, almost exclusive use of natural products.
Galena is a sea nymph who has been promoted to goddess, a Sicilian nymph. Galen is also a mineral from which lead and silver are extracted. Galen, then, is the father of modern medicine. Here, here is everything inside: in a name, us.
Why are you different?
Because we propose awareness. The awareness of improvement: a diamond is beautiful and has value after it has been worked, a diamond is beautiful in power. In awareness. The beauty of an idea, which is first only yours and then becomes visible to everyone. These concepts, combined with cosmetics, become something fascinating: something natural and effective, with results that can be touched in the true sense of the word.
What products do you offer?
A highly concentrated serum for face, neck and décolleté. A face oil. A shock treatment for the eye contour, lip contour and against skin blemishes.
Why are your products better than others?
Because we don’t say it, but our customers say it: Lagalene has a very high repurchase rate, equal to 75%. Which translated in simple terms means a very clear thing: those who try, then never leave us.
Your equity crowdfunding collection with The Best Equity and HUI has started: why should you invest in Lagalene?
Because it is the right time to do it. Because this pandemic is making us think about everything. Because it is the right time to do it. Because this pandemic is making us reflect on the quality of what we do. Because for me nutrition and cosmetics go hand in hand: what we eat and everything we wear contributes to determining the quality of our health. I think people are really understanding this. Because we are natural and we really are. Because our cosmetics improve the skin but also improve life, in a perfect balance of essential oils that respond to an antidepressant and calming functionality, specially protected by international copyright. I must go on?
Because we want to grow further: investing in communication to make all our products known, because we want to structure the company more by putting other right people in the right place. Because I have other products in mind: a “no mask” mask, a sunscreen… And because when I grow up I still want to be a magician.
With new games, yet to be invented. That they are somewhere, waiting to be discovered.
